About
Michael Briguglio read for Sociology at the University of Malta, obtaining a B.A. (Hons.) degree (1st class) in 1998 and a Masters degree (Distinction) in 2002.
He is the first-ever full-time member of staff in the Sociology Department who was a full-time student in the same department. Michael previously lectured at the Junior College, and previously worked in the Public Service at the Budget Office, Ministry of Finance and at the Ministry for Urban Developments and Roads, reaching the grade of Assistant Director.
He is currently reading for a Doctorate in Sociology. Research being carried out in this regard focuses on EU Accession and Civil Society Empowerment: the case of Environmental NGOs in Malta.
Michael’s research interests in Sociology include Environment, Social Policy and Politics. He is a member of various Sociological and academic associations, including the following:
• Sociologists without Borders (USA).
• Green Economics Institute (UK); He is a member of the advisory board of its journal, ‘International Journal of Green Economics’;
• Small States Network for Economic Development, where he has the role of expert;
• Interface - a journal for and about social movements. He is a member of its West European editorial collective;
• International Sociology Association (Spain). He is a member of its Environment & Society research committee.

• Political Ecology Society (USA).
